appel à soutien d'un squat israelien
Posté : 07 déc. 2008 18:01
Désolée j'ai reçu le mail en anglais, si quelqu'un-e a la motiv' de traduire...
A call for solidarity from BxA squat:
Background:
We've opened Tel Aviv's BxA squat in the winter of 2005.
for 3 years we've renovated the building, worked on its
crappy plumbing and electricity, built 2 kitchens
(so that the vegans wouldn't kill the non-vegans),and did
loads of cool stuff with the neighborhood and independently, such as
shows, exhibitions, vegan lunches, workshops,
movie screenings, activities for the neighborhoods kids etc.
all the activities were free, of course. We've built a collective
and tried to amplify the idea of free housing as a natural right
here in Israel.
The Israeli law:
The Israeli law says that the police cannot evict a house that has
been squatted for 30 days or more without a court order.
How come we haven't been evicted for 3 years?
Our building specifically was a Mikve, a Jewish purification bath house
that was owned by a religious orthudocs group. There were some
illegal eviction attempts, but all of them have failed.
The situation:
we are 5 activists who currently face a law suit against the Tel Aviv
municipality that sue us for property tax reaching half a million shekels
(about 125,000$). They sue us for former tax debts that the house
held before we got there, a very peculiar procedure that reeks of
illegality. We're going to have a consideration in January, which would probably end
with a small reduction of a couple of thousands of shekels from our debt.
We call out for help!
To everyone who were a part of the house in Israel and across the globe
and to squatters and activists world wide –
We could really use some financial support. Bands that want to hold
benefits in their country or even better - do it here in Israel. Or
anything you can think about.
We won't stop fighting and demand the right to live as free people.
